Backup to FTP storage in Hestia CP

2 October, 2023

Backup in Hestia by default can occur locally. Backup archives are stored on the server hosting the control panel, which takes up free disk space. When ordering a VDS/VDS server, the user automatically receives a free FTP storage with 50 GB of space. Backups can be stored there by configuring the control panel. It is enough to perform a few actions:

  • Go to the “Server” section and click “Configure”;
  • On the “Archives” tab, enable “Remote Archive”, while disabling “Local Archive”. This will allow backups to be stored on the FTP storage;
  • Open the hosting control panel, select your server, and go to “Server Management”. In this section, you need to enable the storage and go to its settings;
  • Set a strong access password for the storage and remember it.
  • Return to the Hestia settings and fill in the fields for accessing the FTP storage using the data obtained earlier;
  • In the “Protocol” field, specify FTP, in “Host” — the information from FTP, in “Port” — 21, in “Account” — the login and password from FTP. The “Folder” field should be left empty.

The user saves the settings and checks how the storage works. To do this, it is enough to start creating an archive. The fill level will help understand whether the archive is being moved to the FTP. Another way is to add your IP to the storage whitelist and connect to it using any FTP client, using the same data.
