RDP client settings in Windows

29 September, 2023

When working with the server, additional settings provided by the RDP client come in handy, including:

  • file transfer from the PC to the remote server and vice versa;
  • speeding up RDP performance;
  • changing screen sizes.

These are the main settings. Depending on the user's needs, they can learn about others as well. To familiarize themselves with the settings, each of which is highlighted in a separate tab, the user needs to open the RDP client and click "Show Options".

Speeding Up Client Performance

The user selects the "Performance" tab. From the dropdown list, they should choose the "Modem" option. By following these steps, unnecessary visual effects can be disabled, and the client’s performance can be improved.

File Transfer

The user navigates to the "Local Resources" tab. A settings block "Local Devices" appears, where the user should select the "More" button, and then choose local drives to connect to the remote server for file transfer. The user confirms the actions by clicking the OK button.

In the "This Computer" section of the remote server, the selected drives will appear.

Changing Screen Sizes

The user simply needs to stop at the "Display" tab and select the desired resolution using the slider. The RDP client will perform better with lower resolution settings.
